Justin Davis Commits to Stanford?
Maybe Yes, Maybe No.--(March 11, 1999)

From RivalNet's Insider's Report, Mike Sullivan is reporting that Justin Davis, a 6-8 forward from St. Joseph HS in Alameda, CA, who committed to Cal and watched as they uncommitted to him, evidently had a very good visit to Stanford and has now committed to the Cardinal. "I committed there yesterday," Davis told Sullivan. "I had such a great time there. I am very happy to make this decision. It was tough especially after visiting Michigan." He reportedly also told Sullivan it was as good as his visit to Michigan. He had also visited Michigan on Feb. 6th. He was impressed with the Wolverines style of play and coaching, but it wasn't enough to stop him from staying on the West Coast. Davis reportedly told Insider's Report that he felt comfortable at Stanford, and that he had been considering Oklahoma State, UCLA, and Clemson prior to making the committment.  We haven't spoken with Justin or with Gordy Johnson, Justin's high school coach, and so we haven't been able to confirm the report.

We'll all just have to wait and see how reliable this information is, because these are the same guys (Insider's Report) that had the internet abuzz last month when they said that Carlos Boozer had "committed" to Duke.   Of course Carlos hasn't committed, and according to every reliable source we know concerning Carlos (including members of the family), Carlos won't be making any committments until after his high school season ends.

And just remember: More often than not, "verbal committments" end up not being worth the paper they're written on.  Sorry to sound cynical, but we've seen too many athletes make too many "verbals" that turn out to be false-positives.  Again, we'll have to wait and see because the only thing that really means anything is the National Letter of Intent.
