Inland Valley All-Star Game Rosters & Notes--(March 28, 1999)
The Inland Valley All-Star Boys Basketball Game was held last night at 7:00 p.m. at Ayala High School. We weren't there but we understand that it was a very entertaining show.
Here are the rosters for the two teams which participated:
Inland Valley South All Stars | Inland Valley North All Stars |
Bill Burke, Coach (Garey) D.J. Hackett (San Dimas) |
John McNally, Coach (Fontana) Trennell Eddings (Eisenhower) |
So where is Casey Jacobsen, you're wondering? Well, under NCAA rules, a prospective student athlete who has signed a letter of intent can only make two "all-star" game appearances following the end of the regular season and before entering the college or univerisity where he will enroll. Casey played last week in the McDonald's All-American game, and he will also appear in the GTE Wireless Derby Classic in April. Other players of national ranking who will also appear in the GTE Wireless Derby Classic include Marvin Stone (6'-10") from Huntsville, Alabama Marquis, Ron Slay from Oak Hill, Virginia, and a host of other top national players. The Derby Classic last year featured Ruben Douglas of Bell-Jeff who played at Arizona this year.
The credentials among the players from last night's Inland
Valley Game might not have been as impressive or as well known as some of the
"national" players like Jacobsen, but they were still impressive. Point
guard Baron Baker was the Citrus Belt League MVP. Trenell Eddings, one of the best
improvisational players around, averaged 24.7 points per game and seven assists per
game this season. On the South team were D.J. Hackett, the San Dimas guard who led
the Saints to the CIF Division III-AA championship and the CIF State Division III Regional
Finals (i.e., the State Semifinals), and teammate Josh Smith. Ayala's Jack May, Ontario's
Mike Niles and Pomona's Chris Lee, who each led their teams to CIF quarterfinal
appearances - the semifinals in Lee's case - were teamed on the South with Matt Hinojosa,
who averaged 21 points, six rebounds and 4.2 assists per game, and Kevin Turner who
averaged 19.3 ppg and who established some sort of record by making every free throw
attempt but one.
We don't have any idea who won the game (not that it really much matters) but we heard
that the players put on quite a show. Congratulations to those being named as Inland
Valley All-Stars.
