Braswell, Others Interviewed For
Washington State Job--(March 21, 1999)

If it's springtime, that means coaching changes.  And as almost everyone knows by now, Kevin Eastman, the head coach at Washington State   "resigned" last week after five seasons as coach of the Cougars, who were 10-19, 4-14 and last in the Pacific 10 Conference this season.  In other words, he was fired.

So Rick Dickson, the AD at WSU came to SoCal looking for a possible replacement, and last week he met with Bobby Braswell, Cal State Northridge men's basketball coach.  Dickson met with Braswell on Thursday. Braswell has two years left on his four-year contract with CSUN.  This year he led the Matadors to a 17-12 record, and is 43-43 in three years at Northridge. His frustration with the low budget and poor facilities at Northridge is no secret.

Dixon has reportedly interviewed six candidates, including Braswell, and wants to fill the coaching spot within the next two weeks.  This is the second time Braswell's name has surfaced recently in connection with another coaching position. Before the Big West Conference tournament, Long Beach State coach Wayne Morgan's job was reportedly in jeopardy, and Braswell, a former 49er assistant, was also mentioned by some as a possible replacement.  But Long Beach decided two weeks ago to keep Morgan for another year, so that speculation ceased. Braswell was an assistant in the Pac-10 under Coach Jerry Green at Oregon from 1992-96.
