CIF SS Playoffs: Some First Round
Games
Rescheduled, Opponents Switched--(Feb. 18, 1999)
A few first round games in Division V-AA have been moved around, and in a couple of others, the first round opponents have been switched in order to avoid what would have been two teams in the same league playing each other again for at least the third time this year.
Several first round games in Division V-AA have been reset because of religious reasons, i.e., restrictions on play during the Jewish Sabbath, which starts on Friday at sundown and continues until Saturday at sundown. Milken Community's first round game, against Capistrano Valley Christian, which was originally scheduled for Friday at 7:30 p.m. at Milken, has been rescheduled and will take place tonight, Thursday February 19, 1999 at Milken. The school is located on Mullholland Drive, just off the 405 (it's visible from the freeway); take the Mullholland Drive offramp from either direction, and turn left on Mullholland.
Likewise, the Yeshiva and Valley Torah first round games have also been rescheduled. Yeshiva will play the winner of the AGBU, which beat Villanova Prep last night 59-52. The Yeshiva game will not be on Friday, but will be played Saturday night at 7:30 p.m. at Santa Monica High School, which is located just off the 10 freeway in Santa Monica. Take the 10 Freeway west and get off at 4th Street (not 5th, so stay to your left); turn left onto 4th, and at the first signal (which looks like you'll be getting back on the freeway in the opposite direction) turn left again, but get to your right immediately. Look for the driveway into the school parking lot on your right. Follow the road to the parking lot; the gym is straight ahead.
Valley Torah was originally scheduled to play La Sierra Academy on Friday night, but they too have the same religious proscription against playing at that time, so the game will be held instead on Saturday night at the Montclair Prep High School gym. Montclair Prep is located on Sepulveda Blvd., just south of Roscoe in Van Nuys. If you are coming from either north or south, get to the 405 and exit at Roscoe; from the freeway, head east to Sepulveda, and then turn right. The school is about two blocks down Sepulveda and will be on your right; turn right at the first light and go left into the parking lot.
Finally, two games have been switched to avoid league matchups (we were wondering how long it would take someone to figure this one out, because we saw it coming right away). The Wildcard designations for Games "B" and "C" in Division V-AA have been switched, so that Campbell Hall v. St. Margaret's, which was originally game "C" is now "B", thus pitting Campbell Hall, which won last night convincingly, against Mesa Grande (Christian League #1) at Mesa Grande on Friday night. And as it turned out, the potential league rematch wouldn't have happened anyway because Woodcrest Christian lost it's game with Desert.
In Division V-AA, Wild Card Game "B" originally was Woodcrest Christian (Christian #3) v. Desert (High Desert #3); this was instead turned into Game "C", and the winner of the game, Desert, which won 75-56, will meet Whitewater at Whitewater on Friday night.
