A Call To The Bruin Faithful:
Have A Drink. No, Have Two!--(Feb. 12, 1999)
After last night's loss to the Stanford Cardinal, you might even want to have a few more than two. But Tracy Pierson who has been known to write a few lines now and then for WestCoastHoops.com, sent us the following message and asked us to post it here at SoCalHoops. He's got the cure for the Bruin-blahs, and it's known as the "Second Annual Bruin Recruiting Bash." Even though we're really big Cal Bear fans, and also just love Jason and Jarron, we're closet baby bears, aka Bruins, so we're more than happy to spread the word. And how can you not look forward to the Second Annual Bruin Recruiting Bash with all this. Here's the straight poop from Tracy:
The Second Annual Bruin Recruiting Bash will be Sunday, February 28th, at Yankee Doodle's on Santa Monica's Third Street Promenade. Just like last year, this is the only event where you can actually see all the just-signed football recruits on video -- as well as all the basketball spring recruiting targets!
This year, we're also adding video of UCLA's main targets in the junior class -- in both football and basketball!
You get:
*To see UCLA's recruits for the first time!
*A packet of stats, photos, rankings and evaluations! (courtesty of statman, Sam Levi)
*A great buffet lunch!
Speakers:
-- Randy Taylor, Director of Football Operations, will talk about the football class just signed and spring practice.
-- Jim Saia, assistant basketball coach, will talk about the state of the basketball program and the overall state of hoops recruiting.
-- Jeff Fellenzer, former LA Times recruiting columnist and recruiting guru, will discuss UCLA's recruiting in general.
-- Greg Biggins, Student Sports' recruiting director, will cover the best football junior prospects and UCLA's targets in the junior class.
-- Tracy Pierson, publisher of BRO, will talk about UCLA's spring recruiting prospects in basketball and in the junior class.
*****Also -- Head Basketball Coach Steve Lavin might make an appearance!
Others in attendance whose brains you can pick: Basketball scout and recruiting guru, Mike Miller; UCLA basketball guru, Jim Downs; and local prep basketball tournament promotor, Phil Gatton.
