CIF SS Playoffs: Division II-A Quarterfinal
Round Game Results & Details--(Feb. 25, 1999)

These games were, of course, played Tuesday night.  The next round in this division, the semifinals, is Friday, and the games will be played at "Alternate Sites," i.e., a site selected by the winner of the coin flip at which the host team has not previously practiced (playing games at the site is ok, they just cannot practice there).  Here's a summary of results, and such details as we could locate on each of Tuesday night's games

Upper Bracket

Inglewood 77, Lompoc 56
Ocean View 55, Pacifica 46

Lower Bracket

Mayfair 69, Muir 64
Santa Margarita 72, Dos Pueblos 53

Upper Bracket

Inglewood 77, Lompoc 56--Inglewood High's top-seeded Sentinels had four players score in double figures enroute to a 77-56 victory over the Lompoc Braves Tuesday evening at Morningside High in a CIF 2A quarterfinal. Inglewood, now 27-3, advances to a semifinal Friday against Ocean View. Northern League champion Lompoc is done at 16-12.  Inglewood grabbed a 25-15 lead out of the first quarter and kept the margin in double figures throughout. The Sentinels led 40-28 at the half, 57-44 after three.  Down the stretch, using the combo formula of offensive rebounds and fast breaks off steals, Inglewood scored four quick buckets to put the game away.  Forward Marvin Isaacs scored 17, guards Sandy Flecher and Brian Taylor 15 and 13 and forward Skip Esene chipped in 10 for the Sentinels.  Senior guards Jermon Barnes and Maurice McLean had 18 and 12 to lead Lompoc. Senior center Bryan Vargas had 7.  Senior guard Anthony Perkins, whose game was hampered by the stomach flu, scored 5. Senior forwards Phillip Wright and Jay Kennedy each had 4, junior guards Lyndon Conaway and Quadree Salim scored 4 and 2 for Lompoc.

Ocean View 55, Pacifica 46--The Seahawks got 13 points and eight rebounds from swingman Casey Lawson, 12 points and nine rebounds from forward Rahshaw McAfee and six points and four rebounds from reserve center Jeremiah Bell to beat fourth-seeded Pacifica, 55-46. The unseeded Seahawks advance to Friday's semifinal against top-seeded Inglewood. The loss stopped Pacifica's 26-game winning streak.   Guard Tony Dow made six of his final seven field-goal attempts and led Ocean View with 18 points, but this was decided under the basket, where the Mariners' 6-foot-1 center Jayson Simpson gave it a gallant try, despite giving up three inches or so across the front line.  Simpson, whose array of driving layups with both hands kept the Seahawks at bay for much of the first half, had 21 points. But Pacifica was outrebounded, 38-20, in the game. In the third quarter when Ocean View extended a 25-24 halftime lead to nine points, the Seahawks held a 12-2 rebounding advantage and made eight of 14 shots, mostly inside the key.  Simpson was eight of 11 shots but his teammates were a combined 11 of 31.  Still, the Mariners set a furious pace at both ends, but Ocean View responded with tough defense. That had a lot to do with the teams combining for 45 turnovers and five charging fouls.

Lower Bracket

Mayfair 69, Muir 64--Mayfair 69, Muir 64: Sophomore forward Josh Childress totaled 24 points - 11 in the fourth quarter - and 11 rebounds to power the visiting Monsoons (23-6) back from a eight-point deficit in the third quarter to a quarterfinal victory over the Mustangs (26-3). Mayfair also got 15 points and 11 rebounds from junior forward Jeff Bonds, 12 points from junior forward James Washington, 10 points from senior guard Jesus Miranda, and eight points and nine assists from sophomore point guard Edwin Draughan. Muir was paced by senior forward John Parker, who scored 23 points,
and senior guard Darelle Rowe with 16. The Monsoons will take on Santa Margarita in a semifinal game Friday.

Santa Margarita 72, Dos Pueblos 53-- Forward Spencer Gloger led Santa Margarita (26-2) with 27 points. Kelly Kramer added 24 points and had seven rebounds for the Eagles. Santa Margarita will play Mayfair. Dos Pueblos High fell victim to an assault from two fronts in the quarterfinals of the CIF Southern Section Division II-A boys' basketball playoffs. Second-seeded Santa Margarita relied on its 3-point shooting and defense to rout the Chargers 72-53 Tuesday night at Dana Hills. The Eagles' 15th consecutive victory puts them into Friday night's semifinals against Mayfair of Bellflower. Santa Margarita (25-2) made 10-of-18 shots from 3-point range, 8-of-13 in the first half. Kelly Kramer went 4-for-6 from beyond the arc to finish with 24 points, and Spencer Gloger made 4-of-9 3-pointers to  lead all scorers with 27 points. Dos Pueblos (22-8) did not make its first 3-pointer until 5:35 remained in the game. The Chargers converted just 2-of-13 shots from 3-point range. Defensively, Santa Margarita used its full-court press and a variety of matchup zones to sabotage the Chargers. Two long streches without a basket proved devastating. In the second quarter, Dos Pueblos did not score a field goal for four minutes, 6 seconds, and the Eagles used a 10-blitz to turn their 22-18 lead into a 32-18 advantage. Gloger scored eight points during the spree. Then the Chargers began the third period by getting only one basket in the first 3:56, as Santa Margarita expanded the margin to 48-31 with 4:32 left.  ShanTay Legans finished his high school career with 23 points, four steals and two assists. Alex Jenkins added 10 points, five rebounds, three assists and three steals before fouling out. DOS PUEBLOS-A. Jenkins 10, Holbrook 7, Mount 2, Legins 23, Ray 2, Ortiz 5, Worzella 4. Totals 22 7-9 53. SANTA MARGARITA-Kramer 24, Blackburn 5, S. Gloger 27, Dwight 8, Rahall 5, Oldfield 2. Totals 22 18-26 72. 3-point goals-DP 2 (A. Jenkins, Legans ), SM 10 (Kramer 4, S.
