Dominguez 95, Garey 71--Senior guard Keith Kincade scored 21 of his 25 points in the first half and senior point guard Marcus Moore had 19 points, 10 assists, 10 steals and seven rebounds to record his second straight triple-double as the Dons (26-3) easily defeated the Vikings (16-11) in a second-round game at Garey High. Dominguez, the No. 7-ranked team in the nation, also got 10 points from junior forward Cedric Thompkins, who made his first start of the season. Sophomore center Tyson Chandler came off the bench to score 10 points and block seven shots. The Dons will now play the winner of the Cathedral City-Sonora game on Friday in the quarterfinals at 7:30 p.m.

Sonora 82, Cathedral City 72-- Curtis Levine scored 25 points and Marqui Worthy added 21 to lead the visiting Raiders (23-6) past the Cathedral City Lions (22-7).  Sonora led 15-7 after the first quarter, but then was outscored 20-12 in the second quarter.  Sonora then came screaming back in the third quarter, outscoring Cathedral City 32-15, and hung on for the 10 point wining margin evne though they were outscored 29-19 in the fourth. Sonora had 10 three-point goals in the game, with Bim Okunrimboye scoring 2, Levine 7, and Maynord 1, while Cathedral City scored 7 three's of their own (Alvarez, Gerald Devance, and Smith with 1 each, and Cooper with 3).  Paul Heredia fouled out for Cathedral, which certainly didn't help.   Cathedral city closes out the season, while Sonora now gets the privilege of playing Compton Dominguez Friday night in the quarterfinals.

Newport Harbor 61, Compton 56 --Six players are out and so is Compton.  A season of "what if's" ended for Compton High's boys basketball team Tuesday night. With four starters and two key reserves out because of academic ineligibility, Compton lost to visiting Newport Harbor, 61-56, in the second round of the CIF Southern Section's Division II-AA playoffs. While Compton never led, it remained close behind its only regular starter Ellis Myles, who scored a game-high 27 points and had five rebounds. But Newport Harbor's ball movement and experience proved too much for the Tarbabes.  "I just feel that the people that weren't here let us down," Myles said. "They let us down by not getting the grades and not being here. I really thought this was our year to win it all." Lanere Anderson added 10 points and six assists, and Johnathan Henderson had 11 points for Compton (16-9). For Newport Harbor (24-5), Matt Jameson had 19 points and six assists, and Dustin Illingworth had 16 points and six rebounds. Newport Harbor had its biggest lead, 27-14, with 4:40 left in the first half. Compton pulled to 31-25 at the half, but in the second half, the Tarbabes never got closer than four points. Twelve players suited up for Compton, but four had been promoted from the junior varsity and four came from the freshman team after the six key players were suspended. Still, Palmer didn't sulk about having to coach the new players and gave credit to Newport Harbor's execution.

Rancho Verde 106, Trabuco Hills 76 --Brandon Shaw led four players scoring in double figures with 28 points as Moreno Valley Rancho Verde trounced Mission Viejo Trabuco Hills in a second-round Division IIAA game. Rancho Verde (25-4) outscored Trabuco Hills (12-15) by at least eight points in each quarter. Shaw, Fraancea Brown and J.S. Nash each scored 16 points in the first half as Rancho Verde built a 55-39 lead. Preston Norman scored 23 of his 25 points in the second half to ice the game. Both coaches put in their junior varsity players with Rancho Verde up 105-70 and 2:24 remaining in the fourth quarter. Rancho Verde will face Newport Harbor, which beat Compton 61-56, Friday in the quarterfinals. The site will be determined by a coin flip.   TRABUCO HILLS (76) -- Brendon 9, Castlean 4, Tudor 19, Gibson 5, Baker 2, Fields 24, Kieslich 3, Martin 9, Nelson 1. RANCHO VERDE (106) -- Shaw 28, Norman 25, Nash 23, Brown 16, Pinnex 6, Morgan 5, Howard 3.  Halftime score -- Rancho Verde 55-39. Three-point goals -- Pinnex 2, Brown 4, Shaw, Nash 2, Norman, Brendon, Tudor 3, Kieslich, Martin. Total fouls -- Rancho Verde 14, Trabuco Hills 15. Fouled out -- none.

Lower Bracket

Brea Olinda 68, Buena Park 61--Brea Olinda's fast start prevented a sloppy finish from spoiling its 68-61 victory over Buena Park in a Southern Section Division II-AA second-round boys' basketball game Tuesday at Buena Park.   The Wildcats, who advance to play Cerritos Gahr in the quarterfinals Friday, made six of their first eight shots to take a 14-2 lead, but nearly let a 19-point, fourth-quarter advantage slip away because of erratic play. Junior guard Ryan Wilber, who had 24 points and nine rebounds, made a three-pointer on Brea's first possession and scored 10 points in a 17-6 run to start the
game.  Buena Park's leading scorer, 6-6 center Matt Okoro, was limited to two shots in the opening quarter, but his basket early in the second cut the lead to five.   Brea Olinda (26-2) closed out the second quarter with an 8-2 run to take an 11-point lead, then extended its lead to 52-39 after three quarters.  The Wildcats moved ahead, 62-43, on Rick Boehm's basket with about six minutes remaining, but Buena Park's Jamaal Allen followed with a three-pointer, stole the inbounds pass and then converted a three-point play. After one of Brea's seven turnovers in the fourth quarter, DeAndre Gipson made a three-pointer with 4:40 remaining to cut the lead to 62-52.   The Coyotes (20-8) came within eight points with just over two minutes remaining, but missed three consecutive shots down the stretch before Allen hit a three-pointer at the buzzer. Allen scored 24 points to lead Buena Park, Gipson scored 14 and Okoro had 14 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks.

Gahr 53, Tustin 50 --Gahr High's Marques Jordan and the Gladiators, behind a stifling pressure defense, forced 10 second-half turnovers to rally for a 53-50 triumph over visiting Tustin Tuesday night in a CIF Southern Section Division II-AA second-round game. Gahr will play third-seeded Brea Olinda (26-2) for the fourth time this season when the teams meet in a quarterfinal Friday night at a site to be determined. The Wildcats won the three previous meetings. Senior guard Anthony Davis scored the biggest basket of the contest, throwing up a spectacular scoop shot that found nothing but net with
12.7 seconds left in the game to give Gahr a 51-50 lead. Tustin inbounded the ball to senior guard Cam Jackson after Davis' shot. But Jackson was called for an offensive foul while driving to the basket, giving Gahr the ball back with 1.7 seconds left. Center Darrell Handy then threw a long pass to James Perkins, whose layin at the buzzer accounted for the final score. With 6-foot-8 freshman DeAngelo Collins controlling action in the paint, the Tillers (20-8) were able to take a 29-22 halftime advantage. Collins (12 rebounds, seven blocks) had 12 of his 16 points in the opening half. But after Chris Chatman's 3-pointer gave Tustin a 32-22 lead early in the second half, Jordan and Handy sparked a 15-0 run to close the quarter as the Gladiators took a 37-32 advantage heading into the final quarter. The 5-foot-11 Jordan scored four points and grabbed seven rebounds during the period. The Tillers, who turned the ball over eight times during their seven-minute scoring drought in the third quarter, opened the fourth period with a 12-4 burst to regain the lead at 44-41. But senior guard Mike Williams (11 points) sank a deep 3-pointer seconds later to tie the score at 44, and after a Collins basket, Jordan
(15 points, 12 rebounds) scored inside and Williams connected on another long 3-pointer to push Gahr in front, 49-46. Davis finished with
10 points for Gahr.

Pasadena 81, Foothill 63--Chad Bigler had 22 points, including four three-pointers, for Foothill (20-8). Josh Duncan had 20 for Pasadena (23-7) which will now play Redondo Union.  A huge defensive effort in th esecond and third quarters was the key to the win for Pasadena, which used a 42-18 run in the second and third quarters to post a reaonably comfortable margin which carried over to the fourth quarter. Pasadena will now meed Redondo Union in the quarterfinal on Friday night.  Bulldog forward Josh Duncan posted his second postseason game with more than 20 and more than 10 boards.  Jasun Ridley of Pasadena had 17 points and nine rebounds, Kevin Richard scored 13 and grabbed 10 boards.  Reggie Harmon finished with 11 points and 7 aassists and David Ball finished with five points, seven rebounds  and four steals.  For Foothill, Drew Buford had 12, Alex Rasmussen scored 14, Brian Evans 6, John Weir 4, Miguel Romero 3, and Joe Henderson 2.

Redondo Union 56, Paso Robles 51--The Sea Hawks (21-6) allowed 25 first-quarter points, fell behind by six after a quarter, then turned up the defensive pressure to down Paso Robles. Andrew Zahn led Redondo with 24 points, 11 rebounds and four blocks while Walter White added 13 points and five rebounds. Paso Robles made 10 of 12 first-quarter shots, but only went 10 of 37 the rest of the way. Redondo plays Pasadena in the next round. The Paso Robles High Bearcats didn't allow themselves to be intimidated Tuesday by Redondo Union Paso Robles held its ground until the end, when Redondo Union pulled off a 56-51 win in the second round of the CIF-Southern Section Division II-AA boys basketball playoffs.  Paso Robles, 12-13, would have appeared little match for a Redondo team now 21-6 and seeded No. 2 for the playoffs.  But the Bearcats were quite a match. They put together a big first quarter, jumping out to a 25-19 lead.  The Bearcats held a lead until late in the third quarter, when the Sea Hawks went ahead on a basket by Walter White.  Paso Robles was down by three, 53-50, when Brett Larson hit a three-pointer with 1:04 to play.  But two three-point attempts in the final 20 seconds fell short.  Ben Garcia had 15 points and nine rebounds for Paso Robles -- 11 of the points came in the wild first quarter --
while Cassidy had 13 points and Larson 10.  Redondo Union's Andrew Zahn, a 6-10 junior center, had 24 points and seven rebounds.  With Zahn and Dijon Thompson, a 6-6 sophomore guard, the Sea Hawks were big and athletic, and they won.
