West Coast SuperFlo 12's Take Hawaii Title--(Jan. 8, 1999)
We just received word that the 12-U AAU West Coast Superflo team, which is based in Huntington Beach and coached by Eric Jensen (a former assistant to Roy Miller at Huntington Beach High) and Sam Alipio (who formerly coached with 4-D) won the 18th Annual Hawaii-PAL State Basketball Tournament. And apparently, they did it in convincing style, winning games by some pretty lopsided margins. In the Championship game, Billy Sio scored a game-high 14 points, including four three-pointers in a row as Superflo beat the Kona Tigers 33-10. The 10 points scored by Kona was a new tournament record low in a championship game. In the first game of the tournament, Superflo won over the Hilo Andrews Club 59-8. Not all the games were that lopsided, and in one of the quarterfinal games with one of Honolulu's top-ranked youth teams, the Kimukea Basketball Club, Super Flo let by only 5 at the half, 34-29, but eventually ended up winning by a score of 71-47. .
In the semifinals, Superflo again just hammered their opponent, the Kona Stingrays, winning 58-8. WC Superflo power forward Michael Johnson, the team's top scorer, was named tournament MVP. After the tournament was over, Superflo then went looking for other Hawaii teams to beat up on, and found one, the Manoa Basketball Club, reported to be one of Honolulu's top teams, and they won that one 47-30.
The West Coast Super Flo program is always looking for good players. If you're interested give them a call at the West Coast Super Flo hotline at (714) 565-4416.
