Thursday's Games From In & Around SoCal--(Jan. 8, 1999)
There were not an overwhelming number of games yesterday, in fact, just a handful, and Thursday's seem, at least until City Section really gets going next week, to be devoted mostly to the girls' games. Like Seinfeld, George and Elaine used to say, "Not that there's anything wrong with that." It's just that we don't have the time or resources to cover everything, so something has to give, and for now it continues to be the girls' coverage of individual games. But there were some boys' games played in SoCal (we don't have the San Diego results, which is sorta, kinda, ok for now because people like our friend Paul Smith keep posting some of the San Diego results on the message board, which is just fine with us). Here they are:
Metro Leauge
Riverside Christian 73, Upland Christian 31--Nick Paige scored 31 points and teammate J.R Fernandez added 21 points as the Cougars (1-1 in league) rolled past the host Eagles (1-7, 0-2). Riverside Christian used a 20-point second quarter to open a 35-13 halftime advantage. For Upland Christian, Eric Toupal led the way with 11 points.
Northern League
San Luis Obispo 49, Lompoc 44--(played Wednesday) In a game played at San Luis Obispo, SLO's Dan D'Entremont had 24 to lead the Tigers as they improved to 8-6 and dropped the Braves to 6-8. Down 25-18 out of the first half, Lompoc outscored SLO 20-8 in the third to take a 38-33 into the fourth. From Lompoc's view, it helped that D'Entremont, who scored 16 in the first half, was held scoreless in the third. But the Tiger sharpshooter came up with 8 more in the fourth to help his buddies seal the deal. D'Entremont was the only double-figures scorer for SLO. Maurice McLean led the Braves with 13. Lompoc is at Santa Maria today (Friday) in a game slated for 7:30 p.m.
