Southern Section & City Section
Games Results From Thursday Night--(Jan 29, 1999)

Just a handful of games were played yesterday, and mostly in the smaller conferences (with the exception perhaps of the San Gabriel Valley League games, including Dominguez' lopsided win).  Here are the scores and some highlights.

Agape League

Antelope Valley Christian 82, Victor Valley Christian 52-- This game was originally scheduled for Friday (according to the CIF Media guide) so if you see it in our Friday schedule, disregard it.  Wesley Nurse had 11 points, 7 steals and 9 assists.  Peter Beaudin also had 20 points and 10 rebounds for AVC while Jamal Flanagan had 26 and 10 rebounds. Cho had 11.  The high scorer for VVC was Osborne with 24. No other VVC players scored in double figures.  AVC improved to 14-2 and 5-0 in league.

Arrowhead League

Riverside La Sierra Academy 53, La Verne Lutheran 37--Trailing by three points midway through the fourth quarter, La Verne Lutheran's offense vanished, and the Trojans fell to Riverside La Sierra Academy 53-37 in an Arrowhead League boys basketball game Thursday. Mike Thomas led the Trojans with 14 points, five rebounds, and four assists and Ryan Cumberland had 10 points and seven rebounds.

City Section-- Magnet Conference

Sherman Oaks CES 74, Bravo Medical 47-- CES had 3 players in double figures, Brown 13, Keiffer 14, Tray 14 as they improved to 6-12 overall and 4-4 in league.  Bravo dropped to 1-7 in conference play.

Valley Alternative 68, Marlton 51--Gennadi Veksier scored 2 points but grabbed 13 boards, while Andrew Davis scored 24 points for Valley in the win. Yuri Gurevich also grabbed 11 rebounds for Valley which improved to 1-5 in conference; Marlton is now 1-6 in confernece.

City Section--Northern Conference

Wilson 54, Verdugo Hills 49-- Both teams got off to a slow start, but eventually Wilson's Pleits got hot for 19 points in the win.  Records were not available.

Delphic League

Brentwood 61, Whitney 53-- Brentwood was led by Praw and Latham with 14 each, Henrey with 12 and Kussman with 12.  Whitney remains winless in league. Other records were not available.

Heritage League

Faith Baptist 32, Grace Brethren 29--Jeremy Lopez made two three-pointers and Julio Bautista scored nine points in the fourth quarter to ignite a 15-2 run and the Contenders came from 10 points down to take the Heritage League lead at Faith Baptist.  Stefan Grasau had 12 rebounds and blocked five shots down the stretch for Faith Baptist (12-8, 7-1).  Robert Serra had 13 points for the Lancers (11-7, 6-2).

First Lutheran 92, South Bay Lutheran 69-- Anthony Maldonado made 13 of 18 from the floor, including three three-pointers for First Lutheran. Maldonado finished with 31 points and 7 assists, while Sam Hicks had 21 poijnts and 17 rebounds.  John Stark had 13 points and 12 boards, while Chad Durlo of First Lutheran had 10 points and 16 assists, and Johnson had 10 points.  South Bay also had a hot hand with Phillip Washington who scored 14 points.  First Lutheran improved to 8-8 overall and 3-5 in league. 

San Gabriel Valley League

Lynwood 58, Gahr 57--Keyon Kensie scored on a layup off a pass from senior guard Gary Lenoir (21 points) with 11 seconds to play to lift the Knights (13-8, 3-2) over the visiting Gladiators (14-8, 4-2). Gahr lost control of the ball in the final seconds as time expired. The Gladiators took a 57-56 lead with 34 seconds left on two free throws by senior forward Marques Jordan.

Dominguez 95, Downey 50--The Dons (18-2, 6-0), the No. 11-ranked team in the nation, used 17 points from junior Keith Brooks and 13 from senior guard Keith Kincade in a victory over the Vikings (13-9, 1-5) at Dominguez High. Dominguez started fast, taking a 27-6 lead after the first quarter and they never looked back. Senior guard JaMar Eubanks led Downey with a game-high 22 points.

Warren 68, Paramount 57-- Junior guard Curtis Williams had 13 of his game-high 18 points in the second half as the Bears (18-3, 3-2) defeated the Pirates (8-14, 0-6) at Paramount High.

Valle Vista League

Covina Northview 62, Ganesha 49--Ganesha (6-15, 3-6) could not take advantage of a Northview's (4-5 in league) three-point first period, and wound up losing. William Warren led the Giants with 14 points, and Floyd Ike added 12 points and six steals.

Valley League

Valley Torah 68, Pacific Christian 43-- Edward Gerov scored all of his 24 points in the first half and Valley Torah won it's ninth consecutive game agaisnt PC.  Gerov also had 8 assists.  PC's Lemg had 16 points while Lafa had 12.  Valley Torah is now 15-2 overall and 8-0 in league.

Westside League

Highland Hall 69, West Valley Christian 46-- Scott Thomsen scorfed 28 points and had 12 rebounds and 7 steals and 5 blocked shots to lead Highland Hall to a 5-10 record and 2-7 in league.

Santa Clarita Christian 69, LeLycee 31--At Canyon Country, Andrew Duncan scored 34 points, had 13 rebounds and eight assists to lead the Cardinals (12-4, 8-1) in a Westside League game Tuesday night. Mike Brewer chipped in with 18 points and grabbed 11 rebounds.
