D-V State Champion Pacific Hills: An Update--(Jan. 4, 1999)
We got this e-mail yesterday from Tom Bobich, who happens to share the same last name as one of the Pacific Hills coaches. Here's what he had to say:
Pacific Hills, last years Division 5 State Champion, finished off December by capturing the Mt. Carmel (San Diego) Tournament. The Bruins (11-3) defeated Mira Mesa (86-64), University (Irvine) (67-61), El Dorado (61-54) and Los Alamitos (73-70). Pacific Hills, who had their share of buzzer-beaters in last year's playoff captured the tournament at the buzzer on a 23 footer by tournament MVP senior Ryan Abrahams. The Bruins, who have been playing without their all-CIF point guard Brandon Owens, were struggling over the past week with loses to Pacifica and Palisades but have seemed to turn things around with the guard play of seniors Gary White and Hyman Lewis. The team is also depending on a trio of sophomores as they prepare to open up Delphic League play on January 6 at Campbell Hall. The tournament championships was the team's second of the young season as Pac Hills also placed second in the El Segundo Tournament.
