Sites Selected By CIF For Regionals &
Finals In State Championships--(Jan. 10. 1999)

The CIF announced this past week that the sites for the Regional and State Basketball Championship games had been selected, and much to our chagrin (at least for those of us here in SoCal), you'll have to call your travel agent again, because this year's finals will be played like last year, in Sacramento at the ARCO Arena. So, contrary to previous reports, the finals this year will not be held at the Pond.  However, look for the Southern Section playoff finals to be there, with some of the early rounds in the Southern California State Regionals to be played this year in San Diego as well as in Long Beach.  

Here's the official press release from the CIF:

The Arco Arena in Sacramento will be the host site for the 1999 CIF State Basketball Championships on Friday, March 19 and Saturday, March 20. In addition, ARCO will host Northern Regional final action, along with Delta College, Sacramento. The Northern Regional finals are set for Saturday, March 13. In the Southern Regionals, the Cox Arena in San Diego and the Long Beach Pyramid will be the sites for the regional finals on Saturday, March 13.

Eighty teams in all will advance into the state playoffs as brackets will consists of eight teams in five divisions for both boys and girls.Which divisions will play at the listed regional sites above will be determined on seeding Sunday (Sunday, March 7).
