Nike Extravaganza Extra:
Oak Hill To Get Transfer--(Jan 30, 1999)

As if Oak Hill wasn't good enough already.   The USA Today No. 1 team in the country, which will play Compton Dominguez next Saturday night (not tonight, but next week) at Cal State Fullerton at the Nike Extravaganza, is reportedly getting yet another top player.  Courtney Goldwire's Full Court Magazine  (which is not to be confused with Dinos Trigonis' Fullcourt Press Recruiting Newsletter), reports the following:

Top ranked soph Rashaad Carruth (rated No. 3 by Full Court), who attends Cathedral Academy (Decatur, GA)is transferring to Oak Hill Academy. Carruth was ruled academically inelligible from Cathedral on Monday for the rest of the season. We have not confirmed whether he will be able to play at Oak Hill. If he does in fact play it  would be interesting because Oak Hill is loaded with guards Stephen Blake, Chris Williams, John Humphrey and Cliff Hawkins. Carruth is better than most of them and is one of the best shooters we've ever seen. He needs to work on his ball-handling and creating off the dribble, but we think Steve Smith will teach him plenty of that.

"Best shooter we've ever seen?"   Well, we've never seen Carruth shoot (or play for that matter), but if he's even half as good as Full Court reports, then Oak Hill will be obscenely good.  In fact, from what we've seen of Oak Hill in Vegas, all they're really lacked is an outside shooting game (not that Steve Blake can't jack it up if he wants to).  Oak Hill really depends on the inside game with Ronald Slay, Travis Watson and Abdou Diame.

Should be fun even if Carruth doesn't show up. But if he does, Dominguez and Russell Otis will have their hands even more full than they would be without him.  We can't wait.

See you there.
