The Official Schedule printed by the City Section contains the following information:

The official basketball season for the CIF Los Angeles City Section is scheduled for the period of Monday, November 10, 1997, to Friday, February 13, 1998. Teams qualifying for playoffs may continue to practice until eliminated. No Saturday or holiday practice is authorized at any time without prior approval from the Director of Interscholastic Athletics.

TOURNAMENTS

Schools may enter a maximum of three (3) sanctioned tournaments, and are to inform the Athletics Office on the appropriate form.

VACATION PRACTICE

Two hours of voluntary practice is allowed on the weekdays during the Winter Break, when schools is not in session. No practice is allowed on Christmas Day.

PLAYOFF DATES

Round 1-- Friday February 20

Quarter Finals--Wednesday, February 25

Semi-Finals-- Friday or Saturday, February 27/28

Finals-- 3A Friday, March 6, 1998
Finals-- 4A Saturday, March 7, 1998

RULES

All games will be played under 1997098 National Federation rules [including that stupid rule about waiting to enter the lane until the ball hits either the rim or the backboard, which has made boxing out virtually impossible]. Consult the IAC Rule Book for additional rules relating to basketball. The home school must provide a faculty member who will, at all times, be in charge of scoring and timing.

Note: Boys Basketball, as per CIF Rules, will be utilizing a 35 second shot clock beginning this season.
